Show Me Questions

7 questions the examiner may ask you to demonstrate while driving.

What are Show Me questions?

At the start of your driving test, the examiner will ask you one Show Me question — where you demonstrate a safety feature while driving. A wrong answer counts as 1 minor fault. Learn all 7 so you are ready for any of them.

1

Rear Windscreen Wash

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the rear windscreen?"

✅ How to answer:

Operate the rear wash/wipe stalk or button — usually on the indicator or wiper stalk. Demonstrate while keeping eyes on the road.

2

Front Windscreen Wash

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the front windscreen?"

✅ How to answer:

Pull or push the windscreen washer stalk (usually the wiper stalk). The washers and wipers will activate together.

3

Dipped Headlights

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you'd switch on your dipped headlights?"

✅ How to answer:

Turn the light switch to the dipped headlights symbol (two angled lines). Make sure the instrument panel confirms they are on.

4

Rear Demister

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you'd set the rear demister?"

✅ How to answer:

Press the rear demister button (heated rear window symbol — usually on the dashboard or centre console). The warning light will illuminate to confirm it is on.

5

Horn

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you'd operate the horn?"

✅ How to answer:

Press the centre of the steering wheel. Only do this when stationary or moving slowly — you don't need to make it sound, just demonstrate the location and action.

6

Front Demister

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you'd demist the front windscreen?"

✅ How to answer:

Switch on the blower, direct air to the windscreen vents, increase fan speed and temperature, and switch on the air conditioning if available — this clears condensation fastest.

7

Side Window

"When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you'd open and close the side window?"

✅ How to answer:

Use the electric window switch on the door panel — press down to open, pull up to close. If manual, demonstrate turning the window handle.
